Happy New Year

Happy New Year, all!

It seems like a glorious time to write a blog post.  And the New Year should start off on a positive note - so no complaints here.  I love my life.  And today I feel good - the mood is elevated, so I'm going with it.

I spoiled myself this Christmas.  I have wanted a Kitchenaid mixer for a while now, and after my good friend Dale lent me hers over the Christmas holiday, the desire was solidified.  So on Christmas Eve I came across the FutureShop web flyer for their Boxing Week sales (which began at 6pm on Christmas Eve - Yeesh!).  They had the 600 series (professional) on sale for half price - a $700 machine for $350!  I couldn't resist.  I NEVER spend that much money on myself - and, quite frankly, I don't consider this spending the money on myself.  It's an investment on home cooking for my entire family and circle of friends.  $100 came from my Christmas money, so in reality, the dent to our bank account for a $700 machine was only $250.  I think it's a bargain.  And I can't wait to use it.  It's silver - when I told one young friend that I'd ordered it, her first question was "what colour is it?".  I hadn't even considered the colour - I could have bought black or white as well, but I was so exited about the sale I just clicked on the silver.  And would likely have chosen that colour anyhow, even if I HAD known to choose.  It arrived yesterday.  Yay!

Last night my hubby and I went to see "The King's Speech".  Excellent movie.  I highly recommend to anyone - although most of the crowd at the 4:45 showing was over 55 for sure.  Before the movie we went to Best Buy and Indigo and each bought ourselves a treat (the last one for a while, we are now on a spending freeze).  After the movie we went to the Mongolie Grill.  It was a lovely evening, and I was almost awake when I got my Happy New Year kiss at midnight after watching Arnold S. (I'd spell it out, but I'd spell it wrong) in True Lies from 10-12.

For me, it was the perfect New Year's Eve.  I got to spend time with my favourite person (well, one of them - my son is tied, but don't tell him that - he thinks he's first - and often he is), buy a book, watch a couple of good movies, eat some really great food and just relax.  The weather was cold, but no blowing snow or anything, so driving was a breeze.  Thanks to my hubby for being the great guy he is and letting me be me.  I could ask for nothing more.

Along with the New Year come the resolutions.  With the turn of the calendar, reflection is natural, and goals are good, so I do have a couple.  I am going to try my damnest to stop eating junk food.  But I don't know how well that will work (actually, I have a pretty good idea that it won't work, so maybe I'll go with "reducing" instead of "stopping").  Noel and I have both agreed to try and lose 5 pounds.  If I cut out the junk food, that should certainly help.  But those aren't really New Year's resolutions.  They are daily resolutions that I make and break on a regular cycle.  My true New Year's resolution is to finish this article I've been trying to write.  So, as of this moment, with all of you as my witnesses, I dedicate Friday mornings to the task.  I tend to work best in the mornings - so from the time I drop Daniel off at school until at least noon, my main purpose on Friday morning will be to compile this article.  Wish me luck.  I want to have it finished by May, and if I dedicate those hours, it should be easy.  Of course, if I get the contracts that I'm up for, it won't be possible.  Oh well, we'll see what happens.

Now, I want to know yours.  Support is key where resolutions are concerned.  Share yours so you'll be more likely to stick to them ....

  1. Sounds like a lovely night! Way to ring in the New Year.

For me: Less time on the computer, organize home, back onto a regular fitness program, back onto a more healthy diet and ban on plastic bags and take out coffee cups.

  2. Thank you, Laura. Because you left a comment and because you are trying to stop using plastic bags, I'm going to crochet you one of my re-usable ones. Especially good for produce, but can be used for anything.
